If you’re into personal growth and being the best version of you (and I think you are, otherwise you wouldn’t be here reading this) then I’m sure you’ve heard of Tony Robbins. He has touched and changed millions of lives and is probably one of the most influential and holistically successful people on earth. I love learning from Tony and would love to share with you some steps in his morning ritual, which he calls Priming.

He says there are two worlds to master – The External World and the Internal World – and you have to master both. But, if you master only the External World – his example “a la Robin Williams” – but don’t master the Internal World, then there’s a big price to pay.
The Internal World is the one to master first, so he suggests you start your day like this so that you can live from a place of gratitude and blessings and so that you have a base to deal with. By doing this you will set your day -and life- up for success.

Phase 1 – Breathing
He starts with a breathing exercise which is an adaption of the yogic Kapalabhati Pranayama – This technique is heating, detoxifying and energises your whole system – please note, if you suffer from any cardiac disorders, spinal disorders, respiratory infections or are a pregnant women then you should not do this exercise. Opt to do long, slow deep breathing instead.

  1. Sit in a comfortable position.
  2. With your arms above your head, breathe deeply through your nose.
  3. Pull your arms down as you blow out through your nose.
  4. Repeat for 30 breaths.
  5. Rest for 10 seconds.
  6. Do 3 sets of 30

Phase 2 – Gratitude

  1. Put your hands on your heart and feel it beating.
    1. Breathe in and feel the blood rushing through your body.
      Think of 3 moments or people that you can feel deeply grateful for. Really feel what you felt and see what you saw, make it real.

Phase 3 – Goal setting
Focus on three important goals that you have for the next day, month or year. He calls it Three to thrive.
