Last week we learnt a bit about Mother Earth’s Chakras and her special energy vortex where Bali lays. This week we’re covering the chakras of the body and I’ll give you some tips on how to balance these out.
Chakras are energy centres and the word chakra is Sanskrit for ‘wheel’ – I’m sure you’ve seen pictures or videos where the chakras are seen as coloured spinning wheels of energy. You’ve most likely seen or heard of the 7 main chakras in the human body that run from the base of your spine, up to the crown of your head, but did you know that we actually have 114 chakras throughout the human body?! Not only that but we also have 72,000 energy channels called ‘nadis’, which our ‘prana’, or vital energy moves through. We’re a complex energy system and our chakras help regulate all processes from emotions, to organ function, to the immune system!
Now before we go on with the 7 main chakras, it’s important to fully understand that we are energy. All living things are made up of energy. This is why it’s important for our energy centres to function properly, so that we can be balanced mentally, physically and spiritually.
Each chakra has its own colour, frequency and function.
So, let’s start at the base and work our way up…
- Root Chakra – Its energy is based on the Earth element. It’s associated with the feeling of safety, stability, support and grounding.
- Sacral Chakra – Its associated with the emotional body and represents joy, well-being, sexuality, and creativity. Its element is Water.
- Solar Plexus Chakra – represents power and wisdom and its element is Fire.
- Heart Chakra – Its energy is based on the Air element and it represents love, forgiveness and compassion to all.
- Throat Chakra – Represents communication, creativity, faith in our self and others and its element is Ether.
- Third Eye Chakra – Its element is Ether and represents awareness, intuition, knowledge and dignity.
- Crown Chakra – Represents spirituality, perfect balance and oneness with the universe. Its element is also Ether.
Most of us have energetic blocks and imbalances that stop us from functioning at our best on all levels. So next week I’m going to share some basic tips on how to balance these out so that you can perform at your best with optimal, holistic health – mentally, physically and spiritually!
