Happy thirsty Thursday! Did you drink up all the green goodness this past week? If so, I’d love to hear your journey and how it made you feel! And if last week’s newsletter wasn’t enough to convince you, then perhaps this one might do the job. After all, it’s hard to argue with science!

Now you don’t have to take my word for it, here is all the science on why I feel AMAZING with a green juice as part of my morning routine.

ENERGY BOOSTER – Green juice has basically replaced my morning coffee. I loooove coffee and usually have at least one or two every day but since green juicing, I have only had TWO coffees in two weeks!! Here’s why it’s such a great energy booster; Most of us are lacking key vitamins and minerals and when your bod is starved of nutrients, it just won’t work the way it should, leaving us feeling tired. Green juice has got a good amount of protein in it which will keep your energy up for longer, Vitamin B6 helps you properly digest energy from the food you eat and helps with 10 different reactions including metabolising proteins. Also, it’s got iron in it which increases blood flow and makes you feel more awake because enough oxygen is getting around your body and helps deliver all the nutrition you need to where you need it. It’s a really natural way to feel more awake in the morning and one of those instantaneous benefits.

IMMUNE BOOSTER – Green juices are full of nutrition, have huge amounts of Vitamin C and Zinc in it which helps boost the immune system and also has a lot of Vitamin B6 which is responsible for a lot of the biochemical reactions that are vital in keeping your immune system strong. Your immune system needs specific nutrients to work properly and drinking a green juice every day is an easy way to replenish the nutrients your immune system needs.

CLEARER, MORE YOUTHFUL SKIN – Green juice has a lot of vitamin A in it which is ideal if you want to look after your skin. It can actually help repair and regrow skin cells which keep your skin looking younger. Vitamin A is even the active ingredient in some prescription medications used to treat acne and other skin conditions which is why my skin has looked so great over the past couple of weeks!

ALKALISER – Your body’s pH is kinda like the Goldilocks principle. It can’t be too acidic and it can’t be too alkaline. It needs to be juuust right (between 7.35 and 7.45 pH). Our bods have natural buffer systems that keep it within the ideal pH range but when we do things like drink alcohol or eat processed foods it can cause your body to become more acidic. In response, your bod has to pull buffering minerals from somewhere else in the body to maintain your pH. This can result in a huge range of issues from weak bones, fatigue, stiff joints and digestive problems to chronic disease – eeek. But don’t worry! Consuming loads of green veggies helps maintain alkalinity. And the easiest way to do that is with a green juice every day.

WEIGHT LOSS – Last week I told you how it reduced my appetite. Yep, somehow I ate less and exercised more. We know now how it increases energy but how does it help you eat less and lose weight too? Well, first of all green juice loads your body with nutrients and minerals with very few calories (you should aim for a ratio of 1:3 fruit and veg, and only add fruit for a hint of sweetness if you like- the less sugar and calories the better). You can replace your breakfast with a green juice – I always have it first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach for maximum benefits and absorption and have my first meal around midday. The cravings fr sweets or processed food you might have is reduced because it loads every cell with detoxifying vitamins and minerals so you just won’t be craving those foods that make you gain weight! Also psychologically, I think starting your day with something healthy like this mentally sets you up to make healthier choices throughout the day and ultimately sets you up for successful and sustainable weight loss!
