Did you know yesterday was World Environment Day?
In honour of this and Mother Earth, who provides us a home and all our necessities, this week I’m going to go over a few simple steps you can take to be more eco-friendly. Now, you might already be doing all of these and if so well done! However, a nice reminder like this internationally renowned day is always good and spreading the word definitely won’t hurt!
So here are 5 simple things you can do to help Mother Earth, the ecosystem which relies on her and also humanity and our future generations, today!
1.Eat less meat
Cutting down the amount of meat we eat can have a huge impact on the environment. Being careful with what we’re consuming is one of the best things we can do when it comes to being eco-friendly. Even just cutting red meat for two or three days a week can have a massive impact.
2.Turn it off
Leaving your electrics on standby uses up unnecessary energy. Energy conservation is one of the most important things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. So turn it off and you’ll also be rewarded with cheaper electricity bills!
3.Try to cut out plastic
Plastic seems to have found its way into every single aspect of our lives. However, giving it up isn’t as hard as you might think – bring a reusable bag with you when you go shopping, buy your fruit and veg loose and stop buying bottled water. I carry a collapsible cup, metal straw, cutlery and a spare shopping bag with me at all times and have filtered water bottles so I can fill up anywhere! Reducing plastic waste is so easy when there’s so many places to buy eco-friendly, reusable things!
4.Compost
Put any food scraps in the compost instead of the bin. It’s a great natural fertiliser for your garden or any plants you may have and it also reduces the amount of waste going to the landfills – and as it won’t break down anaerobically, there will not be a build-up of methane gas. Win for your garden and win for Mother Earth!
5.Use eco-friendly cleaning products
We’ve covered this in past emails but it doesn’t hurt to mention it again. A lot of conventional cleaning products have a load of harmful chemicals in them that aren’t environmentally friendly – the making of them and the disposal of them. AND repeated exposure to these harmful chemicals not only harms the environment but also our health. Go for green cleaning eco products or organic methods which I covered in a previous email ‘Chemical Free Living’. If you would like me to resend that one please let me know and I will happily get it to you!
That does it for now! There are plenty more things we can do which I will cover in another email but for now – if you’re not already – try these 5 simple steps and if you are, maybe you can help spread the word, share this email and talk to your friends about World Environment Day and what we can do in our daily lives to improve and help save our planet 🙂
Have an outstanding week!
