We’ve been going strong, learning about Ayurveda and the Pitta dosha the past few weeks, though this week I thought we’d take a little break so that I can give you this homemade hand sanitiser recipe instead!
Honestly, this DIY sanitiser saved me a while back when we couldn’t buy any in Hong Kong- thankfully we can now, but I still prefer the homemade one. – So for those of you still struggling to get your hands on some sanitiser (no pun intended), this is for you!
Even if you can buy it now, try this anyway. The earth will thank you as you can make it in bulk and save the packaging and your hands will also thank you for all the extra nourishment you’re giving them while you kill that bacteria!
So here it is; a nourishing homemade hand sanitiser recipe – Yay, no more dry hands!
You’ll need:
- 2/3 cup of Alcohol
- 1/3 cup Aloe Vera
- Few-several drops of Essential Oils
- 1-2 Tbls Coconut Oil
Now, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends using a sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol. I suggest Isopropyl/rubbing alcohol but if you don’t have that handy and you’re desperate, then gin or vodka could work too 😉
The Aloe Vera can be the store bought gel or scrape the fresh gel from the plant.
The Essential oils are optional but I prefer to use them for extra nourishment and scent! You can use whatever you have but preferably use ones with antibacterial properties like tea tree, eucalyptus, lemongrass, lemon, orange, lavender and peppermint – just to name a few. Add a few drops of your oils in!
Coconut oil is also optional but I wouldn’t skip it if you have it. Coconut oil also has antibacterial properties and is super hydrating.
Simply mix (or shake) all of these ingredients together and transfer into a container, bottle or jar of your choice and enjoy your super soft, clean hands! It’s that easy!!
Let me know if you try this and tell me how you like it.
Stay safe and healthy!
