I’m excited to continue to share my essential oil journey with you this week! Last week you heard allll about my new therapeutic oil diffuser and how it’s helped me in numerous ways. Today you’re going to hear all about how I’ve used the oils topically on my skin!
As you may already know from previous posts I’ve shared, I struggle with my skin. What I’ve found now is that using essential oils the past few weeks, my skin has settled and isn’t as aggressive! Wow, amazing and 100% natural.
First, it’s important to know that when using any essential oils on your skin you can dilute it with a carrier oil – which is a vegetable oil, such as coconut oil, grapeseed oil, olive oil or Young Living’s V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex to make sure that the essential oils applied topically are comfortable to the skin – as they are potent drops of plant power! One more thing to note is that if you happen to get essential oil in your eyes DO NOT try to wash it out with water as this will just make it go further, you should use a carrier oil to get essential oils out of your eyes.
Bar a couple of warnings you should know before you use essential oils on your skin, there isn’t much you have to worry about. The benefits of using essential oils topically are countless and the healing powers they possess are mind blowing.
So here are some oils that have helped me for so…
Copaiba essential oil contains large amounts of beta-caryophyllene, a molecule that interacts with cannabinoid receptors in your skin. This causes skin cells to produce beta-endorphin, one of the happiness hormones! Beta-caryophyllene is also a potent anti-inflammatory agent and copaiba is one of the safest oils to use on the skin. It can be very useful in healing, soothing irritation and treating chronic skin disease. I’ve noticed less redness and inflammation when it comes to blemishes and overall better skin complexion.
Frankincense oil is also another anti-inflammatory! It also reduces the appearance of wrinkles and skin imperfections, like discoloration. Used medicinally, this powerful oil is known to soothe inflamed skin by reducing redness, swelling, and itching.
Lavender oil can treat everything from bug bites and minor wounds, to insomnia, stress, headaches, and is also great for skin! Lavender has antifungal properties and reduces inflammation. It can help keep eczema and I wish we (my family) had known this when I was a kid struggling with this condition. Lavender oil can also be used to treat psoriasis and it helps cleanse your skin and lessen redness and irritation.
Tea tree oil is a very popular choice for treating acne and I have loved it for years because of this. It has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and calms redness, swelling, and inflammation. They say it may even help to prevent and reduce acne scars, leaving you with smooth, clear skin! This oil I don’t dilute, if I have a spot I just dab a little bit on the spot before I go to bed. The difference in the morning is incredible!
So these are the oils I use on my face. If I don’t dab it directly on my spots then I either put a drop or two, mixed into my moisturiser or mix it into a tiny bit of coconut oil.
The last oil I will talk about today is Young Living’s oil blend Panaway which is made up of Wintergreen, Clove, Helichrysum and Peppermint. I’m quite active and regularly have sore and tight muscles! This blend is great to rub on muscles to help alleviate my stressed muscles or other discomforts I may have. If I’ve done a lot of physical activity and I know a lactic acid build up is coming I will also rub this on my muscles before bed to prevent soreness in the morning. It’s amazing, seriously. I love this powerful, natural healer. You can also use this on your temples if you suffer from headaches!
